Give me...
We've tried to cover a wide breadth of styles, but obviously we haven't hit them all.
One we refuse to do? Tribal tattoos – we're just not fucking with that. In addition to a lot of tattoo artists hating doing these, you're most likely not doing them right. If you're getting a specific culture's traditional tribal tattoo style, you better be getting it in that country, by someone from that culture, with solid reasoning, respect for the culture, & preferably permission.
Yo, straight up, we hesitated here...Japanese tattoos are a huge part of tattoo history & tattoo culture, but honestly, Americans getting Japanese tattoos from white men kind of screams appropriation, no? Sure, they look badass & all, but consider your reasoning for wanting a Japanese tattoo and how you respect the culture it's coming from. Do your homework on understanding all the aspects of Japanese tattoos, and if your heart is in the right place, go for it. In particular, consider Takashi Matsuba: he is actually from Japan and follows traditional Tebori (ancient hand-tattooing) methods.

Traditional Japanese style is arguably the most widespread Asian tattoo style, especially in the west; however, many eastern cultures have influenced tattoo styles over the years. While traditional Japanese tattoos should follow specific rules (& cover very specific symbolism), this category includes artists who work with various Chinese, Indian, or other eastern cultures' symbolism & subject matter.
Super rich black, some with white highlights; basically black & grey, but some black & grey artists have a softer touch, whereas here, we're looking at a strong black style (can be with some, or without any, shading)

Did you get a tattoo from an artist on this list? We'd love to see it!
