Okay so let's be real – there are thousands of talented tattoo artists out there. It's probably not even possibly to check them all out & we certainly don't want to try. This curated list covers some of the super talented global artists we've come across in different styles, focusing in particular on those who have their own unique style & focus.
If you're looking for a simple tattoo, something super traditional, or aren't overly particular about a particular art style as long as it's well done, just do your own research into shops near you. There are seriously so many shops out there – and that's not to say they're all good (definitely look around first), but there are plenty of skilled tattooers around who can handle walk-ins, custom work, and bang out beautiful pieces, especially in more traditional styles.
Here, we're looking at those artists you go to, not because you want just any tattoo, but those you seek out because you want a piece of their art on your body forever.
Note: The popularity of the tattooers on this list varies, but we've tried to avoid super famous artists like Kat Von D, Scott Campbell, Miryam Lumpini, Bang Bang, etc. That would be boring (& they're already all over the internet). We aren't experts on how well the selected artists are known within the serious tattoo world / just those more "in the know". Don't @ us.
By no means is this list even close to comprehensive of the talent that's out there. We're also not covering all styles – sorry, not sorry. At the very least, if you like a featured tattooer's work, we recommend following them on Instagram – just be warned, following these accounts can give you serious tattoo cravings.
