A bottle of Żubrówka Bison Grass vodka

12

Screen Shot 2020-05-11 at 2.53.07 AM.png

$25-35

Instead of a basic bottle of wine, spice it up by gifting this badass vodka. Even our friend who hates vodka liked this one. It’s completely unique, has over 400 years of history, and can only be produced in Poland with the super specific bison grass from the Białowieża Forest. It’s slightly green and a little sweet, and different sources attribute notes of vanilla, almond, coconut, lavender, and cut grass. Over the last 50 years, Żubrówka has won over 60 awards, and not only is it actually flavorful, but it’s flexible too. It’s included in complex drinks, but also simply mixed with apple juice, ginger ale, or coconut water. Also, it’s featured on Gastro Obscura and the Director of Trip Design & Operations at Atlas Obscura (which we love) recommends it.

Read all about it in this Eater article. Get a bottle from Total Wine or Drizly.

Her jewelry is vibrant, fun, beautiful, and cultural, connecting to both Latin America & the universe. Her instagram caption (“Mis diseños cuentan historias. Parten de mi convicción de que las joyas conectan al hombre con el universo. Mi trabajo es el diario de mi propia vida.”) translates to “My designs tell stories. They start from my conviction that jewels connect man with the universe. My work is the journal of my own life.” Her work regularly includes symbolism, spirituality, and unique iconography. Yeah, they’re expensive, but if you time it right, you can grab a pair on sale for much less – like $50 as opposed to $250.

Ridiculous Inflatable Swan-Thing by David Shrigley

16

Screen Shot 2020-05-11 at 2.53.07 AM.png

$35

Don’t you dare get that basic inflatable swan float, when you could get this (hilarious) RIDICULOUS INFLATABLE SWAN-THING by artist David Shrigley. “Originally designed as a limited edition sculptural piece, cast in heavy polyurethane resin, the David Shrigley Swan has been blown up, literally. This inflatable swan may be missing the graceful curves true to a classic swan, but with its hand-drawn blank expression and erect white neck, it knows exactly what it is, it is a "Ridiculous Inflatable Swan-Thing". Named lovingly by David Shrigley himself, the statuesque swan stands at 35 inches tall and comprises all that is to love about Shrigley's charismatic work, while also being pool-ready. Recently going viral (thanks forever Ollie & twitter) David Shrigley's Ridiculous Inflatable Swan-Thing has been hailed the pool float challenging the trend and speaking to souls!” – Third Drawer Down. Don’t want to go full-on pool float? (Lame) The “Ridiculous Swan-Thing” also comes as a keyring and a stress toy.

The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson

19

Screen Shot 2020-05-11 at 2.53.07 AM.png

$26

With the subtitle “Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair That Changed America”, this historical nonfiction book is presented in a novelistic style, and is based on real characters and events. Author Erik Larson imbues the incredible events surrounding the 1893 Chicago World's Fair with such drama that readers may find themselves checking the book's categorization to be sure that 'The Devil in the White City' is not, in fact, a highly imaginative novel. Larson tells the stories of two men: Daniel H. Burnham, the architect responsible for the fair's construction, and H.H. Holmes, a serial killer masquerading as a charming doctor.
