$180+

For a truly luxurious gift, there’s nothing better than providing the homebody in your life with a snuggly retreat to read in or just relax for some quiet time. There are tons of variations of hanging chairs out there, feel free to shop around for sales or something local. As for current online models, we’d go for this mocha hanging chair from Pier 1’s Swingasan Collection (when this one sells out, Pier 1 is sure to have another type of hanging chair) or a TreePod Lounger or Cabana – basically a giant (hanging) cat tent for humans. The Lounger is enclosed for privacy, while the Cabana style has mesh siding for airflow & a 360-degree view. The TreePods come in 6 colors (graphite, moss, terracotta, slate blue, aquamarine, ivory), support up to 500lbs, can be used indoor or outdoor, and come in 3 sizes: 4’ ($250), 5’ ($300), or 6’ ($350). How epic would naptime be in one of those things? Also, TreePod is partnered with Trees for the Future, planting a tree for every TreePod purchased.

Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking by Susan Cain

18

Screen Shot 2020-05-11 at 2.53.07 AM.png

$13-28

“In Quiet, Susan Cain argues that we dramatically undervalue introverts and shows how much we lose in doing so. She charts the rise of the Extrovert Ideal throughout the twentieth century and explores how deeply it has come to permeate our culture. She also introduces us to successful introverts—from a witty, high-octane public speaker who recharges in solitude after his talks, to a record-breaking salesman who quietly taps into the power of questions. Passionately argued, superbly researched, and filled with indelible stories of real people, Quiet has the power to permanently change how we see introverts and, equally important, how they see themselves.” – Goodreads

A cozy novel to cuddle up with

19

Screen Shot 2020-05-11 at 2.53.07 AM.png

$varies

Is there anything better for a homebody than cuddling up under a soft blanket with a good book? (Hint: the answer is no.) Picking out a novel for someone as a present is really difficult (hence why almost all of the books we recommend in our gift guides are nonfiction), unless you know someone well or they aren’t picky with their reads. There is an actual subgenre known as cozy mysteries or “cozies” (from Wikipedia: “Cozy mysteries, also referred to as ‘cozies’, are a subgenre of crime fiction in which sex & violence occur off stage, the detective is an amateur sleuth, and the crime & detection take place in a small, socially intimate community”), but that’s pretty niche. For these purposes, we’re thinking of just any book that makes you want to curl up with a bunch of pillows in a big chair sipping tea, in front of a fireplace in the winter, or while it rains outside, that sort of image. Check out The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry, Once Upon a River by Diane Setterfield, The Mermaid & Mrs. Hancock by Imogen Hermes Gowar, The Paper Menagerie and Other Stories by Ken Liu, The Bookshop on the Corner by Jenny Colgan, and The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende.

Introvert Doodles: An Illustrated Collection of Life’s Awkward Moments by Maureen Marzi Wilson

20

Screen Shot 2020-05-11 at 2.53.07 AM.png

$8.50-15

“Whoever said there's strength in numbers lied. Meet Marzi. She's an introvert who often finds herself in awkward situations. Marzi used to feel strange about her introverted tendencies. Not anymore! Now she knows that there are tons of introverts out there just like her--introverts who enjoy peace and quiet, need time alone to recharge their battery, and who prefer staying in with their pet and a good book to awkward social interactions. Just like Marzi, these introverts can often be found in libraries, at home watching Netflix, brainstorming excuses to miss your next party, or doodling cute cartoons. Being an introvert in an extrovert world isn't always easy, but it certainly is an adventure. In "Introvert Doodles," follow Marzi through all of her most uncomfortable, charming, honest, and hilarious moments that everyone--introvert, extrovert, or somewhere in between--can relate to.” – Goodreads. Take it one step further by adding Marzi’s Introvert Activity Book ($11.50-16).

Get it from Alibris or Better World Books – add on the activity book from Alibris or Better World Books too.
